There are drummers who are gone, but will remain legends forever. These late greats are one of the reasons we’re all inspired to play the drums.
The Late Greats Listed Below:
Eric Carr – Drummer for the rock band known as ‘Kiss.’ Originally Carr was left-handed, but he trained himself to play the drums right-handed in honor of his favorite drummer Ringo Starr. Another tribute that Eric made to his idol Ringo was his name change. Originally he was known as Paul Charles Caravello, but the band had him change it for professional reasons. Ringo’s last name Starr, and Eric’s last name Carr. Eric Carr was with Kiss when they released their third album Creatures of the Night which was insanely successful.
Eric Carr died November 24, 1991, from heart cancer (A rare cancer), the same day that Freddy Mercury died who was the lead singer of the band Queen.
John Bonham – Drummer for the band known as ‘Led Zeppelin,’ John Bonham’s ear-shattering talent can be heard on songs such as ‘Good Times, Bad Times’ on the second album. The song Moby Dick was made famous by Bonham’s drum solo. Bonham died September 25, 1980, he had drank forty measures of vodka the night prior. The cause of death was pulmonary edema.
Keith Moon – Famous drummer for the band known as ‘The Who.’ Keith Moon was loved for his enthusiastic and creative drum playing style. He was given the nickname ‘Moon The Loon’ or ‘Mad Moon’ because of his eccentric and sometimes self destructive behavior patterns. Friends with Ringo Starr, Ringo once stated “You’re going to kill yourself one day man.” Keith Moon simply replied, “I know.”
Keith Moon died September 7, 1978, from a medication overdose. Moon died from taking 32 tablets of clomethiazone a powerful sedative. It was so powerful that all it took was 6 tablets. The other 26 tablets were still undigested.
